Simple Defense Tips For Mothers
It is such an awesome experience, being a mother. Giving birth and helping your children grow. It is a fulltime job. In the world today, we have to add more responsibility to that job description: Protector, guardian, defender! I know these things seem automatic and come instinctively with motherhood, but to make yourself more aware and better prepared will take some planning.
We all want to think that nothing will happen to our family, our children. As we read the paper or watch the news on TV we see that it can happen to any family.
Make yourself aware of your surroundings, notice people around you, and be able to distinguish when something has changed. Trust your gut instinct. If you think that is a strange car or a strange person nearing you, it probably is. Change your route, and head toward a crowd.
Do not allow strangers to hold your baby. Often, people will ask, "Oh, how precious - may I hold her?" Say "no." It is a simple response. Do not worry about hurting people's feelings.
Teach your young children to avoid strangers. They don't need to wave at people in the grocery store or mall. They do not need to say hello. If your child sees you respond well to strangers, they will believe that person is okay with you. Then they are trusting of that person. Let your child know the dangers and teach them that if a stranger tries to grab them, offer them candy, or ask for help to find a puppy, to say "No" and step backwards and RUN! Run and SCREAM!
Never let your young children outside even in your own front yard without supervision. Watching from the window in the house is not safe enough. Someone could pull up and have your child before you could get out of the house. Set aside playtime, go outside, and play with your child. Supervise them, protect them, and guard them.
