Self Defense Weapons Can Backfire If …

So, you've bought some type of weapon for your self defense, and now you feel much safer. Perhaps you have purchased a gun, a knife, or a taser. The first thing to note is that you may not actually be as safe as you feel you are.

Hopefully, you've made it your business to find out what the laws are pertaining to the possession or use of the weapon before making your purchase. Every area has laws concerning these types of weapons, and you can call your local police station to find out what the law is. Make absolutely sure that you do this, because if you are caught with such a weapon, and it is not legal, ignorance of the law will not be a good enough excuse to protect you from prosecution or fines.

Next, make sure that you take courses that will teach you how to use the weapon properly. There are many available courses, and if you cannot find such instruction in your area, consider a home course, delivered via DVD. You can also call your local police station and inquire about gun and taser courses in your area.

Once you possess and know how to use the weapon, you must then consider whether or not you are willing to use it. Most people are willing to use a taser on another human being, because there is no lasting damage. However, are you absolutely sure that you could point a gun at another human being and pull the trigger? Are you absolutely sure that you could jab a knife into another human being?

The truth is that many of us simply are not capable of doing that, regardless of the situation. What this means that despite owning the weapon and knowing how to use it, you have put yourself in greater danger because that weapon can now be taken away from you and used against you.

What this means is that if you aren't sure that you could pull the trigger or stab somebody, you shouldn't ever carry the weapon. It is a danger to you at that point but not your assailant. Instead, invest in some good self defense classes.
