Self Defense For Men
You may have heard of self defense for women but what about self defense for men? Women are more commonly attacked then men because they are smaller and pose less threat to the attacker. This doesn't mean, however, that men do not get attacked. It does indeed happen, and it is important for a man to know how to defend himself.
The one area that men have with self-defense is the fact that they feel like they should be able to take the attacker out. As a man, you may be perfectly capable of doing that as a potential victim, however, you need to concern yourself with getting away from an attacker as opposed to sticking around for a fight.
Self-defense is not about fighting. It is about getting out of or avoiding a dangerous situation. There are many self-defense classes that are suitable for both men and women. Even the defense techniques taught to women can benefit a male victim as well.
It is also important to know that self-defense techniques may not be needed at all although you still want to know them just in case. For example, if someone comes up to you with a gun or knife, and demands your wallet, this is not the time to be a hero. You don't want to fight. You want to hand over your wallet and not instigate a fight in most cases. Your life is always more important than what is in your wallet.
How often do you think that a criminal demands a wallet from a man at gunpoint or knifepoint, and sticks around to see what is in it? Not very often. Typically, once the wallet is in the hands of the attacker, the attacker will make his getaway. So, be prepared to hand over your wallet by having your credit cards, identification, and money somewhere else on your person but not in your wallet!
