Learning Self Defense At Home

In today's world, we are very busy people, with numerous responsibilities to attend to. This means that we simply may not have the time to take a self defense class, or the classes that are offered simply may not fit into our busy schedules during the times that we are available.

There is another option. You can learn self defense at home.

There are many good self defense courses on video or DVD that are available on the market. This allows you to learn what you need to learn, at a time that is convenient for you. You can easily find such a course for sale online, and have it delivered to your home in a matter of days, if you so desire.

The problem comes in selecting the right course. Obviously, if you are a woman, you will want a course that is designed for you. Not all self defense courses are created equally. Read the sales letter, but remember that it is indeed a sales letter designed to make you want to buy the course.

Take the time to visit self defense forums, and ask others to recommend a home self defense course. The chances are very good that you will get several recommendations. From there, you will have to pick and choose the one that seems like it will work best for you.

Seek first a course that teaches basic self defense principles and techniques. You do not need a full martial arts course. After you know the basics, you can then shop for a course that teaches more advanced techniques. You might also call your local police department to find out if there is a home study course that they recommend.

Finally, find someone who can play the role of an attacker so that you can practice the new moves that you have learned. In a traditional class, a pretend attacker would be available. With a home study course, you must provide your own, and practice is vital! Consider your boyfriend, husband, father, or brother. Don't worry about hurting them. The point of self-defense, after all, is not to maim or kill, but to get away!
